BOUNCERS & SHAKERS
Myer's Studio, Epsom Playhouse - 2-4th September 2010
About the Plays
The John Godber double act of Bouncer and Shakers
Bouncers is an
outrageous and hilarious parody of the disco scene originally set in the mid 1980's; four
brutish bouncers portraying over twenty different characters invite us for a
night out on the town. We meet giggly girls, lads on the make, Hooray
Henrys and a smooth-talking DJ, all against the tatty, glitzy glamour, flashing
lights and pulsating beat of the disco floor.
Shakers is a wickedly glimpse of the oh-so trendy cocktail bar originally set in the early 1990's with four long-suffering waitresses, portraying a variety of customers: from the check-out girls to the chinless wonders, from the yuppies to the local lads tittering at the thought of a "Long, Slow, Comfortable Screw".
Bouncers was listed as one of the top 100 plays of the Twentieth Century by the National Theatre and both plays are studied by GCSE Drama students. The plays contain strong language and therefore are not suitable for young children.
The Cast
Bouncers - Lucky, Eric, Judd, Les, Ralph

Copacabana - May 2011!
The UK stage musical known as Barry
Manilow's Copacabana: A New Musical Comedy, had its American premiere in
2009. The book is by Barry Manilow, Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman; lyrics by
Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman, and music by: Barry Manilow. It opened at the
Prince of Wales Theatre, London and ran from June 23, 1994 to September 9,
1996. It followed with a UK tour for an additional year.
The story follows Stephen, a
young aspiring songwriter, as he composes what he hopes will become a hit
musical. His imagination takes him back to 1947 as he creates a story
surrounding an ambitious young singer Lola la Mar who arrives in New York City
from Tulsa hoping to become a star. Meanwhile Tony Forte, a 1947 incarnation of
Stephen, is attempting to make it as a songwriter while tending bar at the
famous Copacabana Nightclub. Tony instantly falls for Lola as she wanders into
the Copacabana. The scene moves to Havana and a Cuban gangster before a happy
